Eligibility for the ValueStar Verified Program
Any service business can apply to join the ValueStar Verified or ValueStar Customer-Rated programs. To be eligible for the ValueStar Verified program, you must authorize ValueStar to accept and display all reviews, whether positive or negative, submitted by verified customers within 90 days of their purchase on the ValueStar.com website, and if you choose, your own website as well, updated automatically by ValueStar. At a business' request, ValueStar can conduct a telephone survey of recent customers selected at random from the business' full customer list to provide initial reviews and Customer Satisfaction Score.
Understanding that even great businesses occasionally receive less-than-flattering reviews, ValueStar ensures reviews are kept in context by
- displaying reviews in order of their score, from highest to lowest, so a single critical review can't undo the value of numerous positive reviews that preceded it;
- Displaying management replies along with the reviews;
- Manually approving all reviews so that offensive language or criticism of specific, named individuals is never displayed.
Eligibility for the ValueStar Customer-Rated Program
To be eligible for our premium ValueStar Customer-Rated program and corresponding benefits, a business must authorize ValueStar to accept and display all reviews submitted by verified customers in the same manner as for businesses in the Verified program, and must also:
- Commit to customer service by adhering to ValueStar's Consumer Bill of Rights.
- Pass ValueStar's credential checks covering insurance, license, legal and credit verification.
- Achieve a Customer Satisfaction Score of 75 out of a possible score of 100 on 25 or more customer ratings over the last twelve months (achieving a score of 90 of higher makes the business eligible for ValueStar Customer-Rated Gold status).
On applying to the Customer-Rated program, a business' initial Customer Satisfaction Score is determined by a telephone survey of at least 25 consumers selected at random from a full customer list of 200 or more recent customers. Thereafter, the satisfaction score is kept up-to-date with feedback solicited from ValueStar Consumers who either use an enrolled credit card in their transactions with the business or who otherwise provide feedback relating to transactions with the business that ValueStar can confirm as having actually taken place. ValueStar's credential checks must be updated annually, and a new telephone survey must be performed each year if fewer than 25 customer reviews have been received online since the last telephone survey.
How Does ValueStar "Verify" Customers?
ValueStar is unique among ratings and review program in many ways, but perhaps most importantly by its methods for gathering feedback only from consumers verified to be true customers of the businesses they are reviewing. ValueStar gathers ratings from a business' verified customers in three ways.
- Telephone surveys. First, if the business is applying for the premium ValueStar Customer-Rated program, or if a business in the Verified program requests it, we survey a business' recent customers by telephone, selecting them at random from a complete customer list provided by the business.
- Confirmatory emails to businesses. Second, customers can submit feedback at the ValueStar.com website and, if you'd like, at your own website using the easy-to-insert "Powered By ValueStar" computer code. In this case, ValueStar emails the business to confirm that the person submitting feedback is truly a customer before the feedback is accepted as legitimate.
- Credit card-driven surveys. Third, when consumers register with ValueStar, they have the option of registering one or more of their credit cards with ValueStar, permitting us to send them an email survey whenever they use their credit card with a ValueStar Customer-Rated service company (there's never a charge to the consumer for this service; in fact, they earn extra benefits for participating in the credit card program).
